  • It seems that their theology is sound enough, and I like the pastors that I have met, but one of the biggest turnoffs for me is that now every Sunday sermon - including the first one of the day - will be a pre-recorded video of Pastor Allen. Even though I might briefly say hi to a few pals when I attend in person, watching the message on a giant screen in the church without the pastor being present causes a disconnect that's hard for me to ignore, almost as if I'm watching the service online at home and by myself. (Edit - at least some 9:00 AM services will have Pastor Allen live, or other pastors.) I can say that I've met some wonderful people through the small groups, which Daystar encourages you to join and is really the best way to get to know people in the church besides joining a service group; the only drawback to that is that small group curricula are centered around additional weekly 20-minute videos of Pastor Allen, who has stated multiple times that Daystar is not *his* church. I believe that he believes this, and that he is a stand-up guy as a pastor. My most trusted Christian friends, including those who are themselves pastors elsewhere, agree based on what they have observed of him online. In my opinion, though, he is working too hard. I do not see why small group discussions cannot be based on the week's sermon, which is readily available online. All this being said, I would continue to attend Daystar if I were staying in Greensboro, but I am not. There are plenty of opportunities to serve with others, of which I was not able to take full advantage due to changes in my job situation. Daystar is in the midst of building two new multi-million dollar campuses in Greensboro, and I hope that means they're able to reach more people for Christ - rich and poor, young and old, single and married, you get the picture. I don't know how many people will make church decisions based on a Google review, but I have made these comments because I care about Daystar.

  • I was new to Greensboro, when I came across Daystar Church. Immediately, the convenient service times led me there and I quickly found it to be a great place of worship and great place to receive an inspiring bible based message. You can tell right away Pastor Allen is serious about leading Christians to a deeper relationship with Christ and spreading the Good News across the city. Prayer on Wednesday morning is a great midweek option too. My only critique is that it takes a while to feel truly connected, it's almost like people pile in for church and pile out afterwards with little sense of community (there are small groups, but my work schedule never allowed me to attend). After a year, I can name only a hand full of other members. I don't blame the church for this, as Greensboro as a whole proved to be a difficult place to get people to socially let their guards down, but overall, an awesome place of worship, comfortable atmosphere, and a diverse congregation.

  • My wife and I have found our church home and family here, as have many, many of our friends whom we've known for years in Greensboro, that we know from working and also from school at GTCC, Greensboro College and UNC-G. We have discovered that an incredibly diverse, yet closely-knit group of great people are to found here, all bound together by a common desire for themselves and their families to enjoy a closer walk with Jesus.
